As the above photograph illustrates, Filipinos provided the majority of labor for Guthe's excavations. Guthe hired laborers as he went and kept a minimal permanent crew, most of who were also Filipinos. Unfortunately, because our only records of the expedition come from Guthe, it is impossible to determine the motives of those who worked with Guthe.
